Learning Outreach Network (LON) Volunteer Tutor

Join our Learning Outreach Network (LON) as a volunteer tutor this summer and into the 2026 to 2027 academic year. LON is NSEMM's volunteer-delivered education programme, working alongside our funded tutoring (CEF) to support children and young people who would benefit from extra academic support.

As a LON Volunteer Tutor, you will work one-to-one or in small groups with young people from families facing barriers to education. You will help them build confidence, catch up on learning, and reach their potential.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit across the summer holidays (July to August 2026) and continue through the 2026 to 2027 academic year. Whether you can give one hour a week or more, every session makes a real difference.

Sessions are delivered online, so you can volunteer from anywhere in the UK. We provide pre-prepared resources, full safeguarding training, and a supportive team around you. You just need to show up, be yourself, and care.

• Deliver one-to-one tutoring sessions online with CEN students, beginning in summer 2026
• Complete a brief session report after each lesson so we can track student progress
• Build a consistent, supportive relationship with your student across the summer and into the new academic year
• Flag any safeguarding concerns immediately through our Protect system
• Attend occasional team check-ins and online training (flexible scheduling)
• Contribute ideas and feedback to help us improve how we deliver the CEN

• Committed to volunteering across summer 2026 (July to August) and the 2026 to 2027 academic year
• Good knowledge of at least one core subject (Maths, English, Science, or similar)
• A genuine interest in supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds
• Patient, reliable, and able to keep a regular schedule
• Comfortable using video calls and basic technology for online tutoring
• Willing to complete our free safeguarding training before starting
• Enhanced DBS check required (funded by NSEMM for all CEN volunteers)
• Right to work or volunteer in the UK

• The knowledge that your time is directly changing a young person's life
• Full training in safeguarding, education, and the CEN before you start, you will never feel out of your depth
• A reference from NSEMM for your CV, UCAS personal statement, or professional development
• Certificate of volunteering hours for DofE, university applications, or employer records
